Popular Nigerian comedian, actor and social media personality Samuel Perry, widely recognised by his stage name Broda Shaggy, has been hospitalised after allegedly sustaining a gunshot injury while filming a comedy skit.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday afternoon beneath the Sango-Ota bridge in Sango-Ota, an area within Ogun State.
Shooting Occurred During Skit Production
According to sources familiar with the incident, the entertainer was shooting a comedy skit at the location when the gunshot injury occurred. Details surrounding how the shooting happened remain unclear.
A security source disclosed that members of his production crew quickly responded after the incident and rushed him for medical attention.
“He was filming a skit under the Sango-Ota bridge when he sustained a gunshot injury. We are still trying to determine exactly how the incident happened,” the source said.
Rushed to Hospital for Treatment
Following the incident, the comedian was initially taken to Blooming Care Hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos State, where medical personnel administered first aid.
After receiving initial treatment, he was reportedly transferred to Duchess International Hospital located in the Government Residential Area of Ikeja for further medical care.
Sources say he is currently recuperating at the facility.
Police Confirm Investigation
A spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command confirmed that the police were alerted after the injured entertainer was brought to the hospital.
According to the spokesperson, officers and detectives were immediately deployed to the facility after receiving the report.
The police noted that Broda Shaggy was discovered on a stretcher with a gunshot wound to his thigh. However, authorities clarified that the incident itself occurred outside Lagos State’s jurisdiction.
Officials said the shooting reportedly took place in Sango-Ota, meaning the matter falls within the jurisdiction of the Ogun State Police Command.
Despite this, preliminary investigations have commenced to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
Manager Yet to Speak
Efforts to reach Broda Shaggy’s manager, Olufemi Oguntamu, popularly known as Penzaar, were unsuccessful as calls and messages had not been returned at the time of reporting.
Fans across social media have since expressed concern and sent prayers for the comedian’s recovery as more details about the incident continue to emerge.
