A shocking video showing a group of senior students violently attacking a junior student has triggered widespread outrage across Nigeria, leading to the expulsion of the perpetrators by the school authorities in Benin City.
The disturbing incident reportedly took place at Igbinedion Education Centre, where two senior students were seen physically assaulting a younger student inside what appeared to be an empty room on the school premises.
In the viral footage, one of the seniors repeatedly flogged the junior student with a leather belt while the boy lay helplessly on the floor, desperately trying to shield his face with his arms. The victim could be seen begging and attempting to protect himself as the blows continued.
The violence escalated further when the senior student suddenly jumped into the air and landed heavily on the victim, stomping on his head while other students watching the scene could be heard pleading with him to stop.
“Boss, please,” voices in the background begged as the assault continued.
Moments later, another senior student approached the scene and initially appeared to be pulling the victim away from the attacker. However, instead of stopping the violence, he also began assaulting the younger student, pushing him across the ground and stamping on his chest area.
Other students could be heard frantically calling out to him in an attempt to stop the attack.
“Choice, abeg… Choice, Choice, abeg,” one voice repeatedly pleaded.
As the video spread rapidly across social media platforms, it sparked anger among Nigerians, many of whom condemned the brutality and demanded swift disciplinary action against the students involved.
In response to the growing public outrage, the management of Igbinedion Education Centre confirmed that an internal investigation had been launched immediately after the video surfaced.
In a statement released by the school, authorities described the behaviour seen in the footage as deeply disturbing and completely unacceptable.
“The actions shown in the video are in clear violation of the values and standards our institution upholds,” the school said.
The management also stressed that the school maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy against bullying, intimidation, cultism, harassment, and all forms of violence among students.
Following the outcome of the investigation, the school announced that the students responsible for the assault had been expelled with immediate effect.
“After a thorough investigation, the students involved in the incident have been expelled from the school. Such conduct will never be tolerated within our community,” the statement added.
The school further revealed that it is currently providing support to the victim and his family to ensure his wellbeing and safety.
Meanwhile, the incident has also attracted the attention of the Edo State Police Command.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed that authorities had seen the viral footage and urged the victim’s family to formally report the matter to enable the police commence a full investigation.
“I have seen the video, and the family of the victim should come forward to make a complaint so that an investigation can begin,” he said.
The incident has since reignited public conversations about bullying and violence in schools, with many Nigerians calling for stronger disciplinary measures and stricter monitoring to prevent similar cases in educational institutions across the country.
