Lawyer d!es after being trapped in Abuja hotel lift

A legal practitioner, Barrister Abdulsalami Ginsau, has reportedly lost his life after becoming trapped inside an elevator at a hotel in Abuja.

According to eyewitnesses, the tragic incident occurred on Monday, March 30, 2026. The lawyer was said to have been stuck inside the lift for an extended period before he was eventually discovered unresponsive.

Preliminary reports suggest that the prolonged confinement may have led to suffocation, although authorities have yet to officially confirm the exact cause of death. It also remains unclear whether the incident was triggered by a power failure or a mechanical malfunction in the elevator.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the hotel management nor relevant authorities had released an official statement regarding the incident. The name of the hotel involved has also not been made public.

Meanwhile, friends, colleagues, and former students have taken to social media to express their grief and pay tribute to the late lawyer, describing him as a mentor, teacher, and inspirational figure.

One of the mourners, Usamatu Zango, shared a heartfelt tribute, recalling the impact Ginsau had during his time as a teacher before pursuing a legal career.

“The death of Barrister Abdulsalam Umar Ginsau has left me deeply saddened and reflective,” Zango wrote.

“To many, he was simply a teacher, but to me and many others, he was a mentor and a guiding light. I was privileged to be his student between 2007 and 2008, and even though his time with us was brief, his influence was lasting.”
