Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has officially resigned from his position in the Federal Executive Council.

In a resignation letter dated March 26, 2026, Adelabu informed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of his decision to step aside from the role. The letter was transmitted through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Adelabu stated that his resignation was necessary to allow him focus fully on his political ambition ahead of the upcoming governorship race in Oyo State.

The former minister is widely believed to be preparing to contest for the state’s top seat, a move that has intensified political activities among aspirants ahead of the next election cycle.

Adelabu, who previously contested for the Oyo State governorship, served as Minister of Power during a period marked by ongoing efforts to reform Nigeria’s electricity sector and improve power supply nationwide.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement from the presidency regarding the acceptance of his resignation or announcement of a replacement.
