Nigeria’s music heavyweights are set to headline the 2026 Vanguard Personality of the Year Awards as Afrobeats legend Innocent Idibia, widely known as 2Baba, prepares to deliver a show-stopping performance at the prestigious event.
Renowned for his timeless songs and captivating stage presence, 2Baba is expected to entertain guests with a rich blend of classic hits and fan favorites that have defined his decades-long career.
Adding to the excitement, celebrated live band leader Laolu Gbenjo and his energetic ensemble will also perform, bringing their signature fusion of gospel and Fuji rhythms to the grand occasion. The Black Edge Performance Troupe is equally scheduled to provide a vibrant cultural showcase.
The 14th edition of the annual awards ceremony will hold on April 24, 2026, at Eko Hotels & Suites, with proceedings set to begin at 5 p.m.
The event, organised by Vanguard Newspapers, aims to celebrate individuals whose contributions have positively shaped Nigeria’s socio-economic and political landscape. Over the years, the awards have evolved into one of the country’s most respected recognitions of excellence.
Among those to be honoured at this year’s ceremony are Sayyu Dantata and Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, both recognised for their leadership and impact in their respective fields.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, the Editor of Vanguard Newspapers, Eze Anaba, noted that the awards were created to recognise excellence, inspire leadership, and honour individuals who have made meaningful contributions to national development.
