Apple is preparing to enter new territory with its first-ever touchscreen MacBook Pro, expected to debut between late 2026 and early 2027, according to a Bloomberg report.
The upcoming MacBook Pro will feature OLED (organic light-emitting diode) panels, the same advanced display technology used in iPhones and iPad Pro models. Unlike many competing touch-enabled laptops, Apple intends to preserve its signature trackpad and keyboard, giving users the option to combine touchscreen input with traditional controls.
To address one of the main weaknesses of existing touch laptops, Apple has reportedly developed reinforced hinges and internal hardware to keep the display stable during use.
The new models will come in 14- and 16-inch versions, but are likely to cost significantly more than current MacBook Pros due to the use of premium OLED panels. Before the touchscreen models arrive, Apple is expected to release updated versions of its existing MacBook Pro lineup in early 2026.
For years, Apple resisted calls to add touchscreens to its computers, citing ergonomic drawbacks and pointing consumers toward the iPad for touch interaction. However, with rivals offering hybrid laptops that combine touch and traditional inputs, Apple’s move signals a major shift in its design philosophy.
Industry analysts say the launch could mark the beginning of a broader expansion into touchscreen Mac models, depending on how consumers respond to the first-generation device.
