Moroccan midfield maestro Ghizlane Chebbak has clinched the coveted CAF Women’s Player of the Year award, triumphing over Nigeria’s dynamic forward Rasheedat Ajibade at a colourful ceremony held on Wednesday night in Rabat, Morocco.
Chebbak, long regarded as one of the most technically gifted and influential players on the continent, earned the accolade following a year defined by consistency, leadership, and standout performances for both club and country. Her exceptional form was instrumental in Morocco’s strong showings across international competitions, where she anchored the midfield with maturity and precision.
On the club front, Chebbak continued to dominate, delivering commanding displays that solidified her reputation as one of Africa’s elite midfielders. Her tactical intelligence, ball control, and ability to dictate play were key factors that swayed voters in her favour.
Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade, who enjoyed a stellar year with the Super Falcons and French giants Paris Saint-Germain, finished as runner-up. Ajibade’s explosive pace, creativity, and crucial goals were central to Nigeria’s campaign, particularly as the Super Falcons stormed to their record 10th WAFCON title. Despite her outstanding contributions, the Nigerian star narrowly missed out on the top award.
This year’s CAF Awards also celebrated other Nigerian successes, including:
-
Chiamaka Nnadozie, who claimed her third consecutive CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award.
-
The Super Falcons, who were named Women’s Team of the Year following another dominant season on the continent.
-
Nigeria’s notable rise to 38th place in the latest FIFA women’s rankings.
Chebbak’s victory marks a defining moment in her illustrious career and underscores Morocco’s rapid rise in women’s football—a testament to the nation’s sustained investment, talent development, and commitment to growing the women’s game.
With this historic win, Ghizlane Chebbak further cements her legacy as one of Africa’s most accomplished female footballers, inspiring a new generation of stars across the continent.
