Scottish champions Celtic have completed the signing of Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho on a free transfer, following the mutual termination of his contract with Spanish side Sevilla.

The 28-year-old forward finalized the move late on Tuesday night, with the deal officially confirmed at 11:06 p.m., just hours after negotiations were wrapped up.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, who previously worked with Iheanacho during their time together at Leicester City, expressed his excitement about reuniting with the Nigerian international.

“I know Kelechi very well and the qualities he brings to any team,” Rodgers said. “He’s a natural talent with fantastic ability, athleticism, and work-rate. I believe he will settle quickly at Celtic and our supporters will enjoy watching him play. He’s at the peak of his career and I expect him to make a big contribution to our success.”

Iheanacho’s arrival adds valuable depth and experience to the Celtic attack. The striker boasts an impressive career across Europe, having started out at Manchester City where he won the League Cup in 2016 before joining Leicester City in a then-record £25 million deal for a Nigerian player.

During his time with the Foxes, Iheanacho was instrumental in their FA Cup triumph in 2021 and scored the decisive penalty in the Community Shield victory over Manchester City later that year.

Now set for a new chapter in Scotland, Iheanacho is expected to bring his European pedigree and attacking flair to Celtic Park as Rodgers looks to strengthen his squad for domestic and continental challenges.
