China has taken a major step toward mainstreaming flying vehicles as Aridge — the flying car division of Xpeng — has officially commenced trial production at the world’s first dedicated flying car manufacturing plant in Guangzhou.
The sprawling 120,000-square-meter facility has rolled out its first detachable electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, designed for the company’s modular “Land Aircraft Carrier” system, which allows drivers to switch seamlessly between road and air travel.
Built for high-volume output, the factory boasts an annual production capacity of up to 10,000 modules and is projected to assemble one aircraft every 30 minutes once full operations are underway — a scale that marks a global first in the emerging flying car industry.
Current trial production is focused on refining manufacturing processes, verifying safety systems, testing new equipment, and building prototypes required for airworthiness certification. Full-scale mass production is expected once regulatory approvals and technical validations are completed.
The development signals China’s accelerating push into next-generation mobility, positioning the country at the forefront of commercial flying car technology and urban air transportation.
