The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited has announced the suspension of self-collection gantry sales of petroleum products at its Lagos facility, effective Thursday, September 18, 2025.

In an internal communication to partners, the refinery explained that the decision was part of an operational adjustment to boost efficiency and ensure full adoption of its Free Delivery Scheme, which provides direct shipments of products to retail outlets.

The refinery stressed that only registered marketers under the scheme will continue to receive supplies, warning that payments made for self-collection after the effective date would not be honoured.

“We encourage all active and newly onboarded customers to register for the DPRP Free Delivery Scheme, which remains fully operational and offers a seamless delivery experience to your station,” the company stated, while apologising for any inconvenience the new measure might cause.

The suspension comes amid ongoing disputes with the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN). NUPENG has accused the refinery of resisting unionisation of its truck drivers, while DAPPMAN has criticised the free delivery model, arguing that it compels marketers to depend on Dangote’s logistics fleet at commercial rates.

Dangote, however, maintains that the scheme is designed to curb diversion, stabilise supply, and cut costs in the downstream sector. The company has also rejected claims that it should absorb logistics expenses, describing marketers’ demands as disguised calls for subsidies.

The latest development is expected to significantly impact independent petroleum marketers who have relied on direct self-collection from the refinery’s gantry, raising new questions about fuel pricing and distribution logistics across Nigeria.
