Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has confirmed that he has been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning.
Malami revealed the development in a Facebook post on Friday, November 28, though he did not disclose the specific issues or allegations for which he is being summoned.
Malami, who served as Nigeria’s chief law officer from 2015 until May 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, oversaw the EFCC during his eight-year tenure. He is currently a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and has declared interest in contesting the governorship of Kebbi State.
In his statement, the former minister affirmed that he would fully comply with the EFCC’s invitation, describing himself as a committed and law-abiding citizen. He also pledged to keep Nigerians informed about the outcome of his engagement with the anti-graft agency.
“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he wrote.
“I believe in accountability and transparency in public service — values I have always advocated. In that same spirit, I will keep the Nigerian public updated as events unfold.”
