The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a fresh weather advisory, alerting the public to expect heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across several parts of the country over the next three days. The forecast, which begins today, outlines possible disruptions in daily activities due to the anticipated weather conditions.
According to NiMet, strong winds, lightning, and moderate to heavy downpours are expected in many regions, including parts of the North-Central, South-East, South-West, and coastal areas of the South-South. The agency also warned that flash flooding and reduced visibility could pose risks, particularly to motorists and air travelers.
“Residents in low-lying areas should remain vigilant as the potential for localized flooding is high during this period,” the advisory stated. “The public is advised to take necessary precautions, avoid flood-prone zones, and stay tuned to official weather updates.”
Farmers, construction workers, and outdoor event organizers have also been urged to adjust their schedules accordingly to avoid losses or hazards resulting from the storms.
NiMet reassured the public of its continued monitoring of atmospheric conditions and pledged to provide timely updates as the situation evolves. The agency emphasized the importance of preparedness and cooperation with local emergency services where necessary.
This 3-day forecast follows a recent trend of increased rainfall activity across the country, signaling the full arrival of the rainy season. Authorities have also called on state governments and relevant agencies to activate flood-response mechanisms and sensitize citizens in vulnerable communities.
As weather patterns become more unpredictable due to climate change, NiMet continues to stress the need for public awareness and early response as key tools in mitigating the impact of extreme weather events.
