A firefighter took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a startling experience, writing, “I’m not losing it! I just witnessed a massive fireball falling from the sky over East Tennessee, near the Cherokee National Forest!”
The sighting reportedly occurred around 12:20 p.m. Eastern Time. “Did anyone else catch that? It was amazing, but honestly a bit unsettling considering everything going on lately,” the firefighter added. He described the object as looking like “a miniature sun dropping with a blazing tail behind it.”
Meanwhile, reports from neighboring Georgia described not only visual sightings but physical impact. One resident claimed they both saw the fireball and heard it streak overhead—feeling the ground tremble as it seemingly made contact.
In Atlanta, another witness took to social media to ask if there had been an earthquake, noting that the event “sounded like a distant explosion.”
Farther southeast, a driver cruising down I-85 Southbound in Upstate South Carolina managed to capture the moment on dashcam, showing the bright fireball tearing through the sky.
