Missing Lagos banker

The remains of a young Lagos banker, Osemudiamen Idemudia, who had been declared missing earlier this month, were discovered over the weekend in a morgue located in Yaba, Lagos.

According to family sources, the 26-year-old, who was employed in the Point-of-Sale unit of a commercial bank’s Ikota branch, was last seen on the evening of May 9 in the CMS area on Lagos Island. Concern grew after he failed to return home or make contact with anyone, prompting his relatives to launch an urgent search across multiple hospitals and morgues in the state.

One family member, identified simply as Segun, confirmed that Osemudiamen’s body was eventually found on Sunday, bearing multiple deep machete wounds to his head, face, and legs — raising strong suspicions of foul play.

“We discovered his body at the morgue in Yaba. It was heartbreaking. There were severe machete injuries. From all indications, he was murdered,” Segun said.

According to Segun, staff at the mortuary stated that the corpse was brought in by officers of the Nigerian police. However, attempts by the family to gather more information about where or how the body was recovered were unsuccessful. The morgue attendants reportedly had no details about the officers who brought the body in, further complicating the situation.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the circumstances of his death, the family has since conducted the burial.

Osemudiamen’s father, Julius, also recounted events from the day his son went missing. He explained that the young banker had left the office with a colleague to attend a scheduled appointment with a senior staff member at the bank’s head office in CMS. However, upon reaching the location, they were informed that the meeting had been postponed to the following Monday.

The two coworkers then parted ways. Julius said his son was expected to return to his residence in Igando, passing through Iyana Ipaja, but never arrived. When family members failed to reach him after several hours, they reported the matter to the Igando Police Station and began a citywide search.

“This is completely out of character for him,” Julius said. “We were very worried. After 24 hours without hearing from him, we knew something was terribly wrong.”

As of the time of this report, efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful. Calls and text messages to his line have gone unanswered.
