The Federal Government has reassured citizens that Nigeria is on the brink of achieving one of its most ambitious goals yet—uninterrupted 24-hour power supply across the country.
Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, gave this assurance in Abuja on Thursday during the commissioning of new facilities at the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN). The facilities include two blocks housing five modern training workshops and a 104-room hostel designed to build technical expertise within the nation’s power sector.
Speaking at the event, Adelabu expressed optimism that the vision of a fully reliable electricity supply is no longer a distant dream.
“In no time, we are going to witness a country where there is 24/7 uninterrupted power supply. This is possible, and we have certainly seen the signs,” he declared.
Signs of Progress in the Power Sector
The minister noted that the administration’s reform programmes and investments are already showing results. According to him, Nigeria recently recorded the highest power generation and transmission figures in its history, a feat that he described as a sign of steady improvement.
Adelabu highlighted ongoing collaborations between the Federal Government, private investors, and international partners to strengthen critical infrastructure, expand grid capacity, and improve efficiency in power distribution.
He explained that training institutions like NAPTIN will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the nation has the skilled workforce required to manage and sustain the energy reforms.
Commitment to Nigerians
While acknowledging the challenges that have plagued the power sector for decades, the minister reaffirmed the government’s determination to deliver on its promise of a more reliable and sustainable electricity supply.
“We understand the frustrations of Nigerians who have endured years of unreliable power. But today, we can confidently say that the foundation for a brighter future has been laid. Nigerians will soon enjoy the dividends of these efforts,” Adelabu assured.
A Turning Point for the Economy
Analysts say that achieving uninterrupted electricity would be a game-changer for Nigeria’s economy, spurring industrial growth, attracting foreign investment, and improving the quality of life for millions of households. With consistent power, small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs)—the backbone of Nigeria’s economy—would thrive, while schools, hospitals, and other critical services would benefit from reduced reliance on costly alternative energy sources.
As the government intensifies its push toward energy security, many Nigerians remain cautiously hopeful that the long-awaited dream of 24/7 power supply could soon become a reality.
