Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has declared that he has no plans to contest for any political office in the 2027 general elections, stressing that his focus is on working with others to unseat what he described as oppressive leaders at both state and national levels.

El-Rufai made the statement on Wednesday, August 27, in Kaduna, while addressing a delegation of PDP youths who recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under the leadership of Aliyu Bello.

Taking aim at the current administration, the outspoken ex-governor said Nigerians are already aware of the government’s failures.

“This government lies daily, and Nigerians can see the truth for themselves. I am not vying for Senate, nor am I interested in any elective office in 2027. My only concern is that we must work together to liberate our people from these oppressors,” El-Rufai said.

According to him, he had initially planned to step away from active politics after completing his tenure as governor, but the state of the nation compelled him to reconsider.

“My plan after leaving office was to rest, but the situation in the country has changed. We cannot just watch. It is our duty to support the search for better leadership, even if we are not personally contesting,” he added.

El-Rufai’s remarks are seen as a clear indication that, while he will not be on the ballot in 2027, he intends to remain influential in shaping alliances and supporting candidates who align with his vision of leadership change.
