In a heartfelt address to his supporters, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has called for unity and calm following his recent reconciliation with political heavyweight and former governor, Nyesom Wike. Speaking candidly about the situation, Fubara acknowledged that while the peace agreement may be difficult for some to accept, it was necessary for the greater good of the state.
“It is bitter, but we must accept the situation and move on with it,” Fubara told a gathering of loyalists. “We have made peace with Wike—not because it was easy, but because it was needed to restore stability and ensure we continue to serve the people of Rivers without distraction.”
The governor’s statement comes amid weeks of intense political tension and speculation surrounding his strained relationship with Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The rift had threatened to destabilize the state’s political landscape, drawing national attention and prompting calls for reconciliation from top political figures and community leaders.
Fubara explained that the decision to reconcile was not a personal one but a strategic step toward preserving governance and ensuring continued development in Rivers State.
“This is not about ego or personal victory. It is about the people. Our state cannot afford prolonged crisis. Peace is the foundation upon which progress is built,” he emphasized.
While urging his supporters to remain steadfast and not lose hope, Fubara assured them that his administration remains committed to its goals. “We are still focused. Our mission to deliver good governance, economic growth, and improved welfare for Rivers people has not changed. If anything, this peace gives us renewed strength to do more.”
Political analysts believe the truce may have far-reaching implications for the state’s 2027 elections and internal party dynamics, but Fubara has made it clear that his immediate concern is ensuring harmony and forward momentum.
As the dust settles, many in Rivers State are watching closely, hoping this new chapter will bring much-needed calm, unity, and development after a stormy political season.
