Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has expressed confidence that the soon-to-be-completed Gateway International Airport will place the state on the global map by boosting trade, tourism, and international connectivity.

Speaking during an inspection of the ongoing project, Abiodun described the airport as a “legacy infrastructure” that will serve as a catalyst for economic transformation in Ogun and the entire Southwest region. According to him, the facility is strategically positioned to attract both local and foreign investment, given its proximity to Lagos and its potential to serve as a major transportation and logistics hub.

“The Gateway Airport is not just a transportation project; it is an economic gateway for Ogun State. Once operational, it will open up new frontiers in trade, tourism, and industry, while creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs for our people,” the governor said.

Abiodun highlighted that the airport is designed to handle both passenger and cargo operations, making it a critical infrastructure for exporters, manufacturers, and investors seeking faster access to international markets. He added that the project will also support the state’s vision of becoming Nigeria’s leading industrial and investment destination.

Tourism is another sector expected to benefit significantly, with the governor noting that improved air connectivity will encourage more visitors to explore Ogun’s cultural heritage, historic landmarks, and natural attractions.

While commending the contractors for the pace of work, Abiodun assured residents that the project will be completed to world-class standards and in record time. He further stressed that the Gateway Airport would not only complement the state’s industrial growth but also enhance its relevance in the global economy.

“With this airport, Ogun State is set to take its rightful place among leading economies, not just in Nigeria, but in Africa,” he concluded.
