AI Mode Rolls Out Support for Five More Languages Globally

Google has expanded the reach of its artificial intelligence-powered search tool, AI Mode, making it available in Korean and five additional languages. The feature, powered by a customized version of Google’s Gemini 2.5 model, is designed to simplify complex searches by delivering direct, comprehensive answers in a single response.

Unlike traditional searches that often require multiple queries, AI Mode enables users to get clear solutions to multi-layered questions such as travel planning, product comparisons, and step-by-step guides. For example, when asked to create a four-day family trip itinerary for Jeju Island, AI Mode not only generates a tailored plan with activities for children but also provides supporting website links for reference.

The tool is powered by “query fan-out” technology, which breaks down complicated questions into smaller parts, searches them simultaneously, and compiles the results into a structured, easy-to-read answer. Users can also interact with AI Mode through voice commands by tapping the microphone button or via image searches using the camera icon in the Google search bar.

According to Hema Budaraju, Google’s Vice President of Search Product, “AI Mode represents a significant leap forward in the search experience. By combining Google’s wealth of data with AI-powered insights, financial tools, and map integration, we’re offering users smarter, more contextual answers.”

A Global Expansion Strategy

Google first introduced AI Mode worldwide in May, but its latest update extends availability to Korean, Hindi, Japanese, Portuguese, and other widely spoken languages, marking a major step in making the feature more accessible across diverse regions.

This rollout comes at a critical time for the company. With the rising use of AI-powered chatbots like ChatGPT and shifting user behavior away from traditional search methods, Google has faced increasing pressure to innovate.

Balancing Innovation With Business Risks

While AI Mode promises a smoother, more intuitive user experience, it also poses risks to Google’s core search business model, which heavily depends on advertising revenue linked to traditional search results. Industry analysts warn that offering direct answers could reduce traffic to external websites and reshape online advertising dynamics.

Still, many believe Google’s move was unavoidable. A technology analyst noted: “AI search is set to redefine how information is accessed. Even though it may disrupt Google’s existing revenue streams, the company understands that the transition to AI is inevitable and must be embraced.”

By extending AI Mode to six major languages, Google is signaling its determination to remain at the forefront of global search innovation, even as the landscape undergoes one of its biggest transformations in decades.
