Air Peace, Nigeria’s largest domestic airline, has confirmed delays across several of its flight routes on Tuesday morning following a heavy downpour in Lagos.
In a statement released by the airline’s spokesperson, Osifo-Whiskey Efe, the company explained that the adverse weather conditions in Lagos, where the airline operates one of its busiest hubs, forced rescheduling of some flights. Air Peace noted that while it regrets the inconveniences caused to passengers, the safety of travelers and crew remains its highest priority.
“We wish to inform you that due to the heavy downpour of rain in Lagos this morning, some flights across our operating networks will be delayed,” the airline announced.
The airline assured passengers that its operations team was working round the clock to minimize disruptions, while also emphasizing that weather-related challenges are beyond its control.
Passenger Advisory and Safety Commitment
Air Peace encouraged passengers who needed clarity on revised schedules to reach out to the airline directly via email or its customer service hotlines. The statement further highlighted that Air Peace takes pride in its safety record, describing safety as “a core commitment and not just a priority.”
The airline also appealed for patience and understanding, stressing that while delays are frustrating, operating under adverse weather without due caution could pose risks.
“While weather is beyond our control and safety remains our utmost priority, we appeal for your understanding as we manage the disruptions as best as we can and get you to your destinations safely,” the statement added.
Wider Weather Concerns Across Nigeria
The incident comes amid broader weather warnings issued by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet). According to NiMet’s forecast, thunderstorms and rainfall are expected across several parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.
NiMet specifically warned that isolated thunderstorms could bring moderate rainfall in states such as Kaduna, Bauchi, Kebbi, Gombe, Adamawa, and Taraba. The agency also cautioned residents in Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe to prepare for possible flash floods.
For the central region—including Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and the Federal Capital Territory—NiMet predicted a mix of cloudy skies, sunshine intervals, and episodes of moderate rain.
Travelers Advised to Plan Ahead
With rainfall affecting both road and air travel, transport experts have advised passengers to plan ahead, check for flight updates regularly, and allow extra time for possible disruptions. For many passengers traveling through Lagos, Tuesday’s delays served as a reminder of how quickly weather conditions can upend schedules in Nigeria’s busy aviation sector.
Despite the setback, Air Peace reiterated that it remains committed to maintaining high standards of reliability and safety as it continues to expand its domestic and regional services.
