Imo police command identifies officers accused of indulging in cult activities, begins disciplinary actions

The Imo State Police Command has taken swift action against three of its officers accused of engaging in cult-related activities, following public outrage over a viral video.

In the clip, the officers were seen displaying hand signs and symbols widely associated with a notorious cult group. The video quickly circulated online, sparking criticism from Nigerians who condemned the act as a betrayal of the trust reposed in the police force.

Responding to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, ordered a full-scale investigation to uncover the identities of the officers and establish the facts behind their conduct.

Confirming the outcome of the probe, the command’s spokesperson, SP Henry Okoye, revealed that the officers involved were identified as Inspector Obinna Peter, Corporal Amaechi Augustine, and Corporal Ejikeme Victor.

According to Okoye, all three officers have been arrested, placed in custody, and are currently facing internal disciplinary procedures. He explained that an Orderly Room Trial—the police’s formal disciplinary hearing—has been scheduled to begin immediately to determine appropriate sanctions.

“The actions exhibited by the officers in the viral video are not only unprofessional but also a gross violation of the core ethics, discipline, and values of the Nigeria Police Force,” the spokesperson said.

He further assured the public that the Imo Police Command is committed to transparency and accountability, stressing that the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings will be made public.

The incident has once again raised concerns about misconduct within the police, with many Nigerians calling for stricter vetting, monitoring, and re-orientation of officers to restore confidence in the institution.

Meanwhile, the police leadership has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against misconduct, insisting that such unprofessional behavior will not go unpunished.
