Badaru visits troops in Kebbi, urges action against insecurity

Troops engaged in intensified security operations in Kebbi State have neutralised at least 80 armed bandits attempting to infiltrate the state through its border with Zamfara.

The operation, which took place in Ngaski Local Government Area, was confirmed in a statement released on Sunday by Abdullahi Idris Zuru, Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy. He said the success marked a major milestone in the Kebbi State Government’s renewed efforts to bolster security across border communities plagued by banditry.

According to Zuru, the troops’ victory followed a coordinated security strategy involving the deployment of well-equipped personnel along critical border points connecting Kebbi to Sokoto, Zamfara, and Niger states. The move, he noted, was in line with Governor Nasir Idris’s directive to strengthen surveillance and prevent cross-border incursions.

Governor Idris had earlier called for the reinforcement of military presence across the state’s vulnerable entry points, a request that led to a series of sustained operations aimed at disrupting armed bandit movements.

Zuru revealed that credible intelligence reports indicated a large number of armed men were mobilising near Makurdi village in Niger State, prompting swift military action. Troops were strategically positioned to intercept the attackers between Friday night and Saturday morning, resulting in a heavy exchange of gunfire that left about 80 bandits dead.

Abdulrahman Usman, the Director of Security in Kebbi State, confirmed that the operation also led to the recovery of several motorcycles and the rescue of two abducted individuals. He described the confrontation as one of the most decisive engagements yet in the ongoing campaign against insecurity.

The statement further emphasised that the collaboration between the Kebbi State Government and security agencies, especially the Nigerian Army, has been central to the recent operational successes. Governor Idris has reportedly provided extensive logistical assistance, including 100 Hilux vehicles and 5,000 motorcycles, to enhance troop mobility and rapid response capabilities.

In reaction to the development, the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Zayyanu Muhammad, commended the troops for their bravery and applauded Governor Idris for his consistent commitment to ensuring the safety and stability of Kebbi State. He urged residents to continue supporting security efforts through timely intelligence sharing and cooperation with authorities.

The latest operation marks another major breakthrough in the fight against banditry in the North-West, reaffirming Kebbi State’s resolve to protect its citizens and maintain peace across its borders.
