A man identified as Usman Buhari has been killed by bandits in Niger State even after his family delivered a ₦70 million ransom demanded for his release.
Buhari was one of several victims abducted on September 29, 2025, during an attack on travellers along the Mokwa–New Bussa Road in Borgu Local Government Area. Others kidnapped during the incident included Ahmad Mohammed, a Permanent Commissioner with the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC), and Alhassan Bawa Niworo, a former chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
Family Receives Devastating News
The tragic news was reportedly conveyed by the individual assigned to deliver the ransom to the kidnappers. According to the emissary, Buhari succumbed to torture in captivity before the payment was even completed.
The family learned of his death on Friday, November 14, weeks after holding out hope that the ransom would secure his freedom.
Buhari was the younger brother of veteran journalist Babangida Jibrin, known for his work with DW Radio and Voice of America (Hausa Service).
Silence From Authorities
As of the time of reporting, neither the Niger State Government nor security agencies have issued any formal reaction to the killing or updates on the condition of the other abducted victims.
