Fear continues to sweep through communities in Kwara State after bandits who abducted 38 worshippers from a church in Eruku resurfaced in a chilling viral video. Relatives of the victims say the kidnappers have now set a ransom demand of ₦20 million per person, a development that has plunged families into panic and hopelessness.
A journalist from News Central stationed in the area reported that the atmosphere in Eruku has grown increasingly tense, with many residents abandoning their homes overnight. Entire households are said to be relocating out of fear of renewed attacks, following an incident that has drawn both national and international condemnation.
The pastor of the attacked church, whose own first son is among the abductees, described the ordeal as “devastating.” He said the congregation remains traumatized, struggling to come to terms with the scale of the tragedy.
Another relative recounted that the bandits had initially demanded ₦100 million per victim, before later slashing the ransom to ₦20 million each — a figure still far beyond what the rural families can afford.
Adding another twist to the situation, families revealed that each time they attempt to reach the bandits, the calls are answered by a woman who speaks on behalf of the criminal group. Her consistent involvement has raised fresh questions about the internal structure and coordination of the kidnappers.
As the crisis deepens, distressed families are pleading for urgent government intervention, fearing that time is running out for the abducted worshippers.
