The Lagos State Police Command has provided details on why its investigation into sexual assault allegations against Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry, was temporarily suspended.
Earlier, Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh had directed Pastor Okafor to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Panti following multiple complaints. The case was subsequently transferred to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Sylvester Alabi, for further investigation under the supervision of the Inspector-General, Kayode Egbetokun.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, the probe at the Lagos Command was halted primarily because the complainants failed to appear for police interviews. She noted that the police could not run a parallel investigation while Zone 2 handled the matter.
“All the complainants we have been calling on have refused to show up. For now, we are not pressing further. We just wait. Once Zone 2 concludes, we will review and determine the next line of action. Pastor Okafor was released on self-recognition to proceed to Zone 2 for further investigation,” Ms. Adebisi explained.
The controversy surrounding Pastor Okafor began in December 2025, when actress Doris Ogala accused him of reneging on a promise of marriage, claiming the alleged betrayal caused her emotional distress. Following the allegations, Okafor issued a public apology to Ogala and other women he said he had wronged, while also publicly accusing his ex-wife, Bessem, of adultery. Bessem denied the accusation and claimed she had suffered physical abuse during their marriage.
Amid the ongoing scrutiny, Pastor Okafor announced he would step aside from ministerial duties for one month, citing the need to address personal matters and allow investigations to proceed.
The Lagos State Police emphasized that the investigation is ongoing under Zone 2, and further actions will depend on the findings of the supervising command.
