The Lagos State Police Command has launched a manhunt for Abiodun Ariori, Chief Executive Officer of Prosperous Ariori Golden Venture Limited, over his alleged role in a violent land dispute that claimed three lives in the Owode Onirin area on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development in a statement, disclosing that a police inspector was also left in critical condition after sustaining severe injuries during the chaos.

“Preliminary investigation links Mr. Abiodun Ariori to the deadly confrontation between land grabbers and traders. He has been declared wanted after evading arrest and going into hiding,” Hundeyin stated.

Authorities have circulated Ariori’s photo and last known address in Egbeda, urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to alert the police. “If seen, he should be apprehended and handed over to the nearest station,” Hundeyin added.

Disturbing videos of the incident that surfaced online showed victims with fatal wounds — one man with a deep facial gash, and another lifeless with a gunshot injury to the abdomen.

Lagos Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, led a combined security operation to restore calm. The roads have since reopened, with police maintaining a heavy presence to forestall further violence.

Hundeyin further revealed that four policemen, allegedly brought in by Ariori from outside Lagos, were arrested for “illegal duty” and are currently facing orderly room trial.

Clarifying reports of ethnic tension, police insisted the clash was not tribal but a fight involving hoodlums. “Lagos remains peaceful. We urge residents to remain calm and avoid spreading false alarms,” Hundeyin emphasized.

The Command assured the public that justice will be pursued diligently as investigations continue.
