The Lagos State Police Command has been thrown into mourning following the death of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Ngbaronye, who passed away on Friday after undergoing surgery at Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere.
Confirming her death in a statement on Saturday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, described CSP Ngbaronye’s passing as a devastating loss to the Command and the Nigeria Police Force at large.
“CSP Ngbaronye was an officer of rare discipline, commitment, and integrity. She served the Force with outstanding professionalism and a deep sense of duty,” Adebisi stated.
She noted that the late DPO’s calm demeanor, fairness, and strong leadership greatly contributed to fostering a positive relationship between the police and residents of Festac and its environs.
A Respected Officer Remembered for Integrity and Service
Until her death, CSP Ngbaronye was widely respected within the police community for her diligence and ethical approach to law enforcement. She was regarded as a role model to younger officers, known for her insistence on due process and compassion in handling cases.
“She was never found wanting throughout her years of service. Her loss has left a deep void in the Command,” Adebisi added.
Condolences and Tributes
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohumdare Jimoh, has personally reached out to Ngbaronye’s husband and elder brother—who is a cleric—to express the Command’s condolences and offer support to the bereaved family.
“The Commissioner and the entire Command mourn the passing of one of our finest. We pray that God grants her family the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement read.
The Command further assured that details of the burial arrangements would be announced in due course.
CSP Matilda Ngbaronye’s death marks the end of a remarkable policing career defined by courage, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to justice. Her colleagues and subordinates remember her not only as a superior officer but as a mentor whose legacy will endure within the Force.
