Liverpool Break Transfer Record with £125m Signing of Alexander Isak

Liverpool have officially announced the blockbuster signing of Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in a British-record £125 million transfer, smashing the previous high set by Chelsea’s £115m purchase of Moises Caicedo in 2023.

The Premier League champions wrapped up the deal after Isak successfully completed his medical on Merseyside and signed a six-year contract said to be worth £300,000 per week. The 24-year-old forward will take on the iconic No. 9 shirt at Anfield, instantly marking himself as the focal point of Liverpool’s evolving attacking force.

The signing takes Liverpool’s total spending this summer to a staggering £455.5m, with other notable arrivals including German star Florian Wirtz (£116m from Bayer Leverkusen) and French striker Hugo Ekitike (£79m from Eintracht Frankfurt). Despite this, the Reds have managed to offset part of the outlay, recouping around £228m in player sales, leaving their net spend at £218m.

Speaking after sealing the move, Isak expressed his delight:

Isak, who arrived at Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 for £63m, enjoyed a prolific spell at St James’ Park, netting 62 goals in 109 appearances for the Magpies. His consistent finishing, movement, and versatility quickly made him one of the most feared strikers in English football, sparking a transfer saga that has now ended with Liverpool’s record-breaking move.
