The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has imposed a six-month flight ban on legendary Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM1, following an altercation with officials of ValueJet Airlines. The ban, which applies to all commercial flights within and outside Nigeria, comes in response to what authorities have described as “unruly and disruptive behavior” at a domestic airport.
According to sources within the NCAA, the incident occurred last week at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, when KWAM1 allegedly verbally assaulted and threatened ValueJet staff after a disagreement over check-in procedures and boarding priorities. Eyewitnesses claim the altercation escalated, drawing the attention of airport security and aviation officials, who intervened to restore order.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the NCAA condemned the artist’s conduct, emphasizing that no individual—regardless of status—is above the rules governing air travel and airport safety.
“The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has zero tolerance for acts of indiscipline, verbal abuse, or threats to airline personnel and aviation operations,” the statement read. “Following a thorough review of reports from airport security, ValueJet, and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. Wasiu Ayinde Marshal is hereby restricted from boarding any commercial flights within or outside Nigeria for a period of six months.”
The authority added that the decision was aimed at reinforcing discipline in Nigeria’s aviation sector and protecting airline personnel from harassment or intimidation.
This marks the first time a high-profile celebrity in Nigeria has received such a sweeping air travel sanction, drawing widespread public reactions. While some fans and industry colleagues have called for calm and a possible reconsideration, others have supported the NCAA’s move, stating that accountability must be upheld regardless of a person’s fame or influence.
KWAM1’s camp has yet to release an official statement, but sources close to the musician suggest that his legal team is preparing a formal response and may challenge the ban, citing alleged provocation and “one-sided reporting” of the incident.
Meanwhile, ValueJet commended the NCAA’s swift intervention and restated its commitment to upholding professionalism and safety in its operations.
The ban is expected to impact KWAM1’s local and international travel plans, especially as the iconic performer is scheduled to headline several concerts and cultural events in the coming months. Until the restriction is lifted, he will be required to use alternative means for domestic and international engagements.
As the aviation industry grapples with increasing reports of passenger misconduct, the NCAA’s decision is seen as a strong message that aviation safety and decorum must be upheld—regardless of fame, status, or influence.
