The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has vowed to take decisive action against social media personalities Very Dark Man (VDM) and Mr Jollof after a viral video captured both men engaging in a physical confrontation inside an aircraft at the Asaba International Airport on Sunday, November 17.
Michael Achimugu, spokesperson for the NCAA, issued a stern statement on X, condemning the conduct of the two influencers and stressing that their behaviour endangered the safety of passengers, crew, and the aircraft.
Achimugu explained that he became aware of the incident while on board a flight and immediately requested initial details to alert the NCAA’s Consumer Protection Officers. However, upon landing, he discovered his comments had attracted numerous insults from social media users, a development he brushed aside as he focused on addressing the safety breach.
According to him, proper aviation procedure requires the airline to file a formal report to the NCAA, which will then be reviewed by the legal department for necessary sanctions. While awaiting the airline’s official documentation, Achimugu made it clear that the authority maintains a zero-tolerance stance on unruly conduct aboard aircraft.
He expressed deep disappointment, noting that both VDM and Mr Jollof, despite being public figures who routinely preach responsible behaviour to their large audiences, engaged in the very acts they warn others against.
Achimugu questioned whether the pilot allowed the men to travel to their destination or had them removed before takeoff, adding that if they were flown despite the fight, further consequences could follow.
He emphasized that no justification exists for such behaviour, regardless of the cause, as it poses a significant threat to aviation safety. The NCAA, he assured, has invested substantial effort in sensitizing the public on the dangers and penalties associated with misconduct in flight environments.
Achimugu promised to issue a comprehensive statement once all the necessary information has been gathered.
Meanwhile, both VDM and Mr Jollof are currently at the Delta State Airport Police Command, where they are providing their official statements regarding the incident.
