Renowned Nigerian actor, filmmaker, and producer Kayode Peters Adewumi has passed away at the age of 49 in Toronto, Canada, early on Saturday, June 28, 2025. According to a heartfelt family statement posted on his official Instagram page, Peters peacefully succumbed to a prolonged illness
The statement reads:
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, Kayode Peters Adewumi, who passed on peacefully this morning June 28, 2025 in Toronto, Canada.
KP braved, challenged and conquered a long‑time illness until his last breath this morning.
KP, a cherished son, husband, father, brother, and friend, a gifted film maker, actor and producer whose work inspired many. Beyond his talent, it was his kindness, warmth, and generous spirit that truly defined him…”
Peters emerged as a pivotal force in Nigerian theatre and television, earning acclaim for producing the iconic early-2000s sitcom Flatmates, along with several beloved projects such as Extended Family, Twilight Zone, Being Farouk, and stage productions like Doll House . According to Pulse, after graduating with a degree in English from the University of Lagos, Peters launched his career in 2000 and went on to work on high-profile titles including Crazy Grannies and Dream Job in 2021, and directed international projects like Excuse My African in New York City.
