Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has firmly denied claims that he is plotting to remove his deputy, Olayide Adelami, describing the speculation as baseless and attention-seeking.
The rumour followed a viral video circulated by a cleric who predicted the alleged removal of Adelami from office. The video sparked conversations across political circles in the state, raising concerns about possible discord within the government.
However, speaking during the inauguration of the Ayegunle–Iwaro Oka Akoko Expressway in Akoko South-West Local Government Area, Aiyedatiwa publicly debunked the claims. He described the video as the handiwork of individuals seeking relevance and urged residents to ignore what he termed “fake” narratives.
Addressing his deputy directly at the event, the governor expressed appreciation for Adelami’s loyalty and support, especially for stepping in during his recent official trip. He rhetorically questioned the logic behind the rumour, insisting there was no basis for such speculation.
Aiyedatiwa assumed office on December 27, 2023, following the passing of former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Adelami was subsequently appointed as deputy governor to support the new administration.
One Year in Office Marked by Infrastructure Drive
The governor made the clarification while marking his administration’s first anniversary, using the occasion to highlight ongoing development projects across the state.
He reiterated that road construction and rehabilitation remain central to his administration’s development blueprint. According to him, the approximately six-kilometre Ayegunle–Iwaro Oka Road project was executed with durable materials to accommodate heavy traffic and boost economic activities in the region.
In Owo, the governor also commissioned Opomulero Road, Iselu Road, and Isuada Road, alongside the rehabilitation of Falodun and Kajola Roads. He described the projects as symbolic of renewed hope and steady progress across Ondo State.
Aiyedatiwa emphasized that improved road connectivity would stimulate commerce, reduce travel time, and enhance accessibility within communities. He expressed gratitude for what he called significant achievements within a relatively short period in office.
Political observers say the governor’s public show of unity with his deputy appears aimed at quelling any perception of internal friction, as the administration continues to consolidate its footing ahead of future political contests.
