Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen is expected to regain full fitness in time for the highly anticipated Istanbul derby against Fenerbahce later this month, boosting his club’s hopes in the Super Lig title race.
The Nigerian forward has been out of action after suffering an arm injury during Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League play-off clash against Liverpool prior to the international break. Following the setback, Osimhen underwent surgery and has been working through a structured recovery programme.
Encouragingly for Galatasaray supporters, the 27-year-old resumed training with the squad on Saturday, marking a significant step toward his return. However, he only participated in non-contact drills and was not included in the squad that faced Kocaelispor on Sunday.
According to sources close to the player, Osimhen is expected to be fully fit for the crucial league encounter against fierce rivals Fenerbahce scheduled for April 26. There is also a slim possibility that he could make an earlier comeback in matches against Gençlerbirliği, either in the league or in the Turkish Cup quarter-final.
“The King is back. Victor Osimhen returned to training but in non-contact sessions,” a source close to the striker revealed, adding that the focus remains on ensuring he reaches peak condition before the derby.
Galatasaray also confirmed the forward’s gradual return in a club statement, noting that Osimhen trained with teammates during the opening phase of the session before continuing individual recovery work with physiotherapists.
His potential return comes at a crucial time for the Turkish giants, who are currently battling to maintain their lead at the top of the Super Lig standings. Fans are hopeful that Osimhen’s comeback will provide a timely boost as the season approaches its decisive stage.
Since completing his €75 million permanent move last summer, Osimhen has been instrumental for Galatasaray, delivering key goals and performances that have strengthened their title ambitions. His return ahead of the derby against Fenerbahce is therefore expected to play a major role in shaping the outcome of the championship race.
