Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced that he will be taking a short break from public activities to focus on his health.

In a post shared on his verified X account on Saturday, Obi disclosed that his physician had advised him to rest for a few days, prompting him to suspend all his scheduled engagements for the weekend.

The former Anambra State governor explained that the decision came after a busy week of engagements. He had spoken at a tourism event in Enugu before visiting Good Hope Specialist Hospital, Isulo, in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The facility, currently being acquired by the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, received a ₦10 million donation from Obi to support its revitalisation plans.

Commending the Diocese’s vision to transform the hospital into a comprehensive medical complex with a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology, Obi stressed that healthcare remains one of the most impactful investments for national development.

He later travelled to Owerri to attend a dinner in honour of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. However, Obi admitted he was already feeling unwell earlier in the day and had sought medical care, where he was advised to take time off.

“In obedience to my doctor’s advice, I will not be able to meet up with all my scheduled engagements within and outside the country this weekend,” Obi stated.

The development has sparked mixed reactions among his supporters, many of whom have expressed prayers and goodwill messages for his recovery.
