Tragedy struck last Tuesday when a fire outbreak at Afriland Towers claimed the lives of six United Capital staff members, leaving families, friends, and colleagues in mourning. Among the victims was Kehinde Adeoye, a young mother whose final words continue to echo in the hearts of those she left behind.
Her close friend, Boluwatife, took to social media to share the heartbreaking details of Kehinde’s last moments. According to her, Kehinde managed to place a call to her husband while trapped inside the building. With her strength fading, she pleaded, “Help me look after our children.”
Kehinde reportedly died from severe smoke inhalation, not from burns, a revelation that has further deepened the grief of those who knew her. Boluwatife also disclosed that Kehinde had only recently returned from maternity leave. She leaves behind a three-month-old baby and a six-year-old child.
The devastating news has sparked widespread sympathy across Nigeria, with many expressing sorrow at the young mother’s untimely death. Friends and colleagues have described Kehinde as diligent, cheerful, and devoted to her family.
The Afriland Towers fire has since raised urgent questions about safety standards in high-rise buildings, with calls for stricter fire safety compliance and better emergency response measures. For Kehinde’s family, however, no investigation or policy change can replace the void she has left behind.
As her husband and children face an uncertain future, Kehinde’s last words remain a haunting reminder of a mother’s love and sacrifice: even in her final moments, her thoughts were only of her children.
