The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a commercial taxi driver, Adedayo Ben Adegbola, suspected of carrying out multiple rape, assault, and robbery attacks on female passengers in various parts of the state.

According to a statement from the Command, the arrest followed an extensive investigation by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, acting on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohunda Jimoh.

The suspect, described by authorities as “notorious and dangerous,” was tracked down after several victims identified him from viral social media posts showing his picture. Investigators confirmed that Adegbola had been operating under the guise of a commercial taxi driver, targeting unsuspecting female commuters, particularly at night.

He was arrested on October 31, 2025, and a red Toyota Corolla with registration number JJJ 226 HT, believed to have been used to commit the crimes, was recovered and impounded as evidence.

Victims Identify the Suspect

Several women have since come forward to identify Adegbola as the man who lured them into his vehicle before allegedly attacking, sexually assaulting, and robbing them. Reports indicate that the suspect would drive his victims to secluded areas, assault them, and abandon them afterward.

Police sources revealed that investigators are pursuing new leads to determine if he acted alone or was part of a wider criminal syndicate that targets passengers through unregistered taxi services in Lagos.

Investigation Underway

The Lagos Police Command has intensified its probe to uncover any accomplices and to gather more evidence that could strengthen the case in court. The Commissioner of Police has also called on other possible victims to come forward and report their experiences to the SCID, Panti, assuring that their identities and testimonies will be treated with utmost confidentiality and protection.

“The Command remains fully committed to ensuring justice for all survivors of sexual and violent crimes. No offender will go unpunished,” CP Jimoh stated.

Public Advisory

Police authorities have urged Lagos residents to be vigilant when boarding commercial vehicles, particularly those not registered with recognized transport or ride-hailing companies. Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station or through official hotlines.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue. The Lagos State Police Command reaffirmed its resolve to protect residents, uphold justice, and ensure the safety of all road users across the state.
