Ozoro "Rape" Festival Assault Stirs National Outrage Over Women's Safety

The Delta State Police Command has taken into custody eleven additional individuals in connection with the disturbing cases of sexual assault reported in Oramudu Quarters, Ozoro, last Thursday, March 19.

This development was confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday, March 21, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe. According to him, the Commissioner of Police directed the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) to carry out an in-depth investigation into the incident.

Following a careful review of video footage and intelligence gathered, operatives of the CP-SAT identified and apprehended more suspects believed to be involved. Among those arrested are Samson Atukpodo, Steven Ovie, Ugbevo Samson, Afoke Akporobaro, Evidence Oguname, along with six others whose identities were not immediately disclosed.

With these latest arrests, the total number of suspects currently in police custody has risen to fifteen.

The Command emphasized that initial findings suggest the acts were carried out by criminal elements who took advantage of the situation to commit acts of sexual violence. Authorities clarified that such behavior does not reflect any recognized cultural practice or tradition.

The Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Aina Adesola, strongly denounced the incident, describing it as unacceptable and assuring the public that justice will be pursued to its full extent. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to identifying all perpetrators and ensuring they are prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Residents, particularly victims and eyewitnesses, have been urged to assist ongoing investigations by providing useful information. The police assured that all tips and reports will be handled with utmost confidentiality.
