Nigeria’s women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, delivered a breathtaking performance on Saturday night to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final held in Rabat.

Despite going 2-0 down in the first half, the Falcons showed resilience, tactical discipline, and championship spirit to mount a remarkable second-half comeback that saw them score three goals and seal their record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

The North Africans had taken an early lead, capitalizing on defensive lapses and overwhelming crowd support. However, Nigeria returned from the halftime break with renewed energy and purpose. Goals from Rasheedat Ajibade, Uchenna Kanu, and Asisat Oshoala turned the tide and left the home side stunned.

Head coach Randy Waldrum praised the team’s mentality, calling the win “a testament to the never-give-up attitude of the Super Falcons.”

The victory cements Nigeria’s dominance in women’s football on the continent and serves as a powerful statement ahead of their preparations for the 2025 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

Fans across Nigeria have taken to social media to celebrate the historic win, with many hailing the team as “true queens of African football.”
