President Bola Tinubu on Thursday received Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, in separate meetings at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as high-level political consultations continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The two governors arrived at the State House independently on Thursday afternoon. Observations at the Villa showed that Governor Mutfwang arrived shortly after 3:00 p.m., while Governor Makinde followed about 30 minutes later.

Although details of the discussions were not made public, the meetings are widely viewed within political circles as part of broader engagements by the President with influential state actors amid shifting political alignments nationwide.

Governor Makinde, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), remains one of the few opposition governors yet to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), despite sustained pressure and recent high-profile defections. He is also believed to be strategically positioning himself ahead of the PDP’s presidential primaries, with strong speculation around his interest in the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.

Governor Mutfwang’s visit, however, carries added political significance. His meeting with President Tinubu marks his first known official engagement with the President since his recent defection from the PDP to the APC, a move that further strengthened the ruling party’s growing influence among sitting governors.

In recent months, President Tinubu has intensified consultations with governors across party lines, holding similar meetings that underscore his administration’s efforts to foster political dialogue, consolidate alliances, and manage evolving dynamics within the nation’s political landscape.
