Super Eagles striker and Galatasaray sensation Victor Osimhen has added another major honour to his growing list of achievements after being named GQ Turkey’s Sports Icon of the Year.
The award was presented during an elegant gala held in Istanbul on Wednesday, December 10, where influential personalities from fashion, sports, entertainment, and culture gathered to celebrate excellence.
Why He Won the Award
Osimhen’s explosive impact in Turkish football made him the clear favourite for the honour.
During the previous campaign, he produced one of the most remarkable individual seasons in the club’s modern history, firing 37 goals and assisting seven more in all competitions. His performances were instrumental in guiding Galatasaray to a historic league and cup double.
Still Delivering Despite Setbacks
Even though he has battled injuries this season, the Nigerian forward remains Galatasaray’s most dangerous attacker, already amassing 11 goals in 14 games.
His relentless spirit, athleticism, and consistency continue to earn him admiration both in Turkey and internationally.
Global Recognition for a Nigerian Star
GQ Turkey described Osimhen as an “unstoppable force” and a player whose influence goes beyond the pitch—qualities that inspired the magazine to honour him among other trailblazers in sports and entertainment.
A video from the ceremony shows the audience applauding as he took the stage to receive the award in his signature confident style.
