The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has issued a formal apology to candidates and stakeholders following a technical glitch that affected the release of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results. The council acknowledged that the unexpected error caused confusion and concern among candidates who attempted to access their results shortly after the official release was announced.
In a statement released on Wednesday, WAEC confirmed that a system malfunction led to inaccurate or incomplete display of results for some candidates. The Council reassured the public that its technical team is currently working round the clock to resolve the issue and restore normalcy.
“We regret the inconvenience caused to candidates, parents, and schools due to the temporary disruption in accessing the 2025 WASSCE results. Our IT team is actively working to correct the glitch, and we expect full access to be restored within the next 24 hours,” the statement read.
WAEC also advised candidates who encountered problems accessing their results to remain calm and avoid panic. “There is no need for alarm. The results have not been tampered with. It is purely a technical delay in visibility, and no scores have been altered or lost,” the council assured.
Reports from various parts of the country indicated that many candidates who tried to check their results online received error messages or incomplete grades, leading to widespread anxiety. In some cases, students were shown blank result pages or received messages indicating “No Result Available.”
The glitch comes at a critical time for many students who are preparing for university admission processes and scholarship applications, which rely heavily on timely result verification.
Parents, school administrators, and education stakeholders have urged WAEC to improve its digital infrastructure to prevent a recurrence of such incidents. In response, the council noted that it would conduct a full review of its digital systems once the current issues are resolved.
This is not the first time WAEC has experienced digital disruptions during result releases, but the 2025 incident has drawn significant attention due to the large number of affected candidates and the growing reliance on online platforms for result access.
As candidates await a full resolution, WAEC has encouraged students to revisit the results portal after 24 hours and assured them that their academic records remain intact and secure.
For further inquiries, the council advised candidates to contact their national WAEC office or access official communication channels for real-time updates.
