Amid escalating Russian aggression, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has demanded stronger international action, spotlighting the fragility of President Trump’s peace diplomacy.
On August 28, 2025, Kyiv endured its most devastating assault since the Trump–Putin summit—facing a barrage of 629 missiles and drones, of which Ukraine intercepted 589 but tragically still resulted in at least 15 civilian deaths, including four children, and left 38 people injured. Key structures such as the British Council and the EU delegation offices were also damaged.
Zelensky condemned the attack as a deliberate act targeting civilians and called on the global community to impose stronger sanctions on Russia. European leaders, including Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, echoed his outrage
This brutal escalation casts serious doubt over President Trump’s recent diplomatic maneuvers aimed at ending the conflict. Analysts now see the Kremlin’s continued offensive as a blatant rejection of diplomacy and a signal that peace talks alone cannot restrain Russian aggression.
