The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has stirred widespread reactions after revealing that he knows the exact day he will die — and that it will happen on a Sunday.
Speaking during a recent church program, the revered cleric, fondly called “Daddy G.O.” by millions of his followers, stated that he is fully prepared for when the Lord will call him home. According to Adeboye, his departure from this world will be peaceful, occurring shortly after a Sunday service, surrounded by fellow worshippers and in the presence of God’s glory.
“I know the day I will go,” he declared. “It will be on a Sunday, just after we have finished praising and worshipping God. Then, I will be on my way to meet Him.”
The statement has generated mixed responses among Nigerians and the global Christian community. Many of his followers see it as a sign of deep spiritual connection with God, while others view it as a reminder of life’s brevity and the importance of living righteously.
Pastor Adeboye, 83, has been at the helm of the RCCG since 1981, overseeing its expansion from a small Nigerian congregation to one of the world’s largest Pentecostal churches, with millions of members across over 190 nations. Known for his humility, discipline, and prophetic utterances, he has often used his sermons to prepare believers for eternity.
While some have expressed concern over the weight of his recent words, Adeboye has reassured his congregation that there is no cause for fear, emphasizing that death for a believer is not the end, but a glorious transition to eternal life.
For many RCCG members, his declaration serves not as a moment of sorrow, but as a prophetic reflection of a life lived in service to God — one they believe will end in the same spirit of worship that has defined his decades-long ministry.
