Daniel Bryan’s WWE contract doesn’t end in September

We know Daniel Bryan’s contract is up soon, because the man himself said as much, and he’s got some big decisions to make about his future. In the process of promoting his Universal championship match against Roman Reigns on Friday Night SmackDown this past week, however, he clarified that his contract doesn’t end in September like has been going around:

It’s funny that people gravitate towards the date “September,” and I think it’s because that’s when my last contract ended, but it doesn’t end in September. [Note: Bryan was tight-lipped about when his contract actually runs out.] I’m still trying to figure out what that looks like… I had a tag team match on SmackDown last Friday, and it was a lot of fun, but my neck was just wrecked. I’m going to be 40 in May and my daughter likes to get on my shoulders to pick leaves from a Japanese maple in front of our house [and he couldn’t this time due to the pain]. You get to that point where it’s like, how long can I do this full-time and still be able to do those kinds of things with my daughter? What’s the right balance between part-time and that sort of thing? It may be that it’s just every once in a while when the urge strikes, or maybe like a schedule where it’s like eight months on, these months off.

He’s spoken for some time now about how wrestling is becoming less and less the focus of his life. At the very least, we now know that September isn’t the month to look forward to for a possible answer on what comes next.

Bryan, of course, lost that match to Reigns and is now banished from SmackDown, the brand he’s been exclusive too for many years now. The way it played out after, with a Con-Chair-To, it would appear WWE is going to give Bryan some time off for the foreseeable future instead of simply switching brands. But nothing is official in that regard.

Hey, maybe they’ll let him go wrestle in Mexico like he wants.
