How To Cook The Best Minced Meat

Method One: Savoury Minced Meat Stew


  • 1/2 Kg of minced beef
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, crushed
  • 2 teaspoons of mild curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon of ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon of garam masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger
  • 1 cup of golden raisins
  • 2 teaspoons of lemon juice
    • 2 slices of white bread
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 2 eggs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooking oil

Cooking Instructions

In a large bowl, soak the bread in the milk until softened and set it aside. Also, preheat your oven to 180°C.

Fry your chopped onions and garlic paste until golden brown, then add the ground beef.

Cook over medium heat until browned, breaking up the minced meat with a wooden spoon or spatula as it cooks. Once the meat is browned, drain any excess fat.

Next, add the curry powder, turmeric, cumin, coriander, garam masala, ginger, salt, and pepper and cook for 2-3 minutes, until fragrant. Add in the raisins and lemon juice and remove from heat.

Getting back to your bowl of soaked bread, squeeze out the excess milk and mix the soaked bread with the beef mixture.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and the remaining milk and pour the liquid mixture over the beef mixture.

Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the custard is set and lightly browned.

Let your bobotie cool for a few minutes before serving it. You can enjoy your dish with yellow rice, green bean salad, or any other vegetable salad of your choice.
