Jigawa police arrest man who killed his wife with poison in order to inherit her property

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Habu Ibrahim, for killing his wife with poison in order to inherit her property.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, disclosed this on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, when he paraded the suspect alongside others arrested for committing various crimes in the state.
Briefing newsmen at the command headquarters, the CP said the suspects were arrested from February 1 to 27, 2024, for culpable homicide, fraud, kidnapping, vandalism, theft, cattle rustling, armed robbery and other crimes.
According to the commissioner, Habu Ibrahim gave his 35-year-old wife, Zakiya Uzairu, a bottle of poisoned drink and meat.
“ARREST OF CULPABLE HOMICIDE SUSPECT: – On 21/02/2024 at about 1000hrs, information from source revealed that one Habu Ibrahim ‘m’ 40yrs of Danadama village, S/Tankarkar LGA, applied poison in a Big Cola drink and meat, gave it to his wife, one Zakiya Uzairu ‘f’ age 35yrs of the same address, with intent to kill her and inherit her wealth,” the CP stated.
“On receipt of the report, detectives attached to Sule Tankarkar Division swung into action and rushed to the scene. They successfully arrested the suspect and brought him to the Divisional Crime Branch Sule Tankarkar for questioning.
“The suspect was also transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Dutse for investigation.
“On interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the commission of the crime,” he added.
The commissioner further disclosed that one Garba Tori, was arrested for killing his female neighbour after she caught him trespassing into her room to steal.
“On 09/02/2024 at about 0800hrs, one Garba Tori ‘m’ of Gishinawu village K/Kasamma LGA, reported at Hadejia ‘A’ Division that, on the same date at about 0700hrs, one Aisha Adamu ‘f’ age 50yrs of Jibiya LGA, Katsina state was found dead in her sister’s room at Gishinawa village K/Kasamma LGA,” he said.
“On receipt of the report, detectives attached to Hadejia ‘A’ Division visited the scene of the crime, where a visible mark of violence was discovered in her body. Following an in-depth investigation, one Sale Samaila ‘m’ age 25yrs of the same address was arrested in connection with the case.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to have trespassed into her room with intent to steal, but she resisted, when he noticed that the deceased was trying to recognize him, he forcefully pushed her with heavy wooden frame and she fell, with a fatal injury as a result of which she died later before taken to hospital,”
In another development, on 11/02/2024 at about 1000hrs, Intel from a reliable source revealed that on 10/02/2024, unknown persons reportedly vandalized the street light along Dutse International Airport (DIS) Fanisau road Dutse LGA and stole away the armored cable wires.
Upon receipt of the report, detectives attached to Fanisau Division swiftly rushed to the scene of the crime for on the spot assessment and possible arrest of the perpetrators.
Following a tip-off, on the same date at about 1800hrs, three suspects namely; Sani Ibrahim ’m’ age 24yrs, Adamu Lawan ‘m’ age 23yrs all of Kwanar Balbelu village Dutse LGA and Usaini Munkaila ‘m’ age 30yrs of Bukka Dutse LGA, were arrested in connection with the crime. The vandalized cable wires were recovered in their possession and treated as exhibits.
On interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Dutse, the suspects confessed to the commission of the crime and further mentioned one Idris Abdurrahaman ‘m’ age 34yrs of Kachi village, Dutse LGA as their receiver, he was equally arrested. The three (3) suspects including the receiver had been arraigned before the court to face the full wrath of the law.
The command also arrested a notorious kidnap kingpin, Adamu Musa, who was once convicted in Kano State but pardoned by the State Government Committee on Prerogative of Mercy.
“On 12/02/2024 at about 1430hrs, operatives attached to State Intelligence Department (SID) Dutse, acted on credible Intelligence, succeeded in arresting a notorious kidnap kingpin one Adamu Musa ‘m’ age 40yrs of Rimi Gamaro village, Sumaila LGA, Kano state but residing in Yalwawa Quarters, Dutse metropolis,” the police boss said.
“The arrest was made following an Intelligence report on the suspicious movement of the suspect in Dutse and perceived intelligence that the said suspect ran away from his domain to evade arrest. He was also on the wanted list of Kano and Bauchi State Police Commands.
“On interrogation, the suspect also confessed to have been a receiver of rustled animals and vendors of such to Adamawa State. Furthermore, the information had it that he has once been convicted in Kano State, but pardoned by the State Government Committee on Prerogative of Mercy. The suspect was handed over to Kano State Command for further investigation as he is on their top wanted list,”
ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS*: On 15/02/2024 at about 2100hrs, a distress call was received at Hadejia Division that, some hoodlums attacked an Okada rider and robbed him of his motorcycle.
On receipt of the report, Patrol team attached to Hadejia Division swiftly rushed to the scene and arrested one Auwal Tahir ‘m’ age 29yrs and Samaila Mohammed ‘m’ 27yrs of Jambulo Hadejia, all of Doron Baga LGA, Borno state.
On interrogation, the suspects confessed to have attacked the Okada man and robbed him of the motorcycle. They also confessed to have committed the same offence on the 12th and 13th of February, 2024 at Hadejia LGA where they collected two motorcycles and sold them at the rate of Two Hundred and thirty six thousand naira (₦236,000.00k) to one Alin Mai ‘m’ of the same address, now at large. Suspects were transferred to SCID for discreet investigation, upon which they were charged to court on 22nd February, 2024.
ARREST OF CULPABLE HOMICIDE SUSPECT:  On 18/02/2024 at about 0230hrs, one Musa Adamu ‘m’ age 40yrs of Garmaguwa Fulani Camp Guri LGA, reported at Guri Division that on the same date at about 0100hrs, the following suspects namely; (1) Idris Haruna ‘m’ age 27yrs, (2) Lawal Nura ‘m’ age 30yrs and (3) Musbahu Abubakar ‘m’ age 28yrs all of Arinjasko village Guri LGA, used a Dane Gun and shot his son one Adamu Umar ‘m’ age 17yrs of Garmaguwa Fulani Camp Guri LGA on his right leg, as a result the victim sustained a serious injury.
Meanwhile, the first suspect one Idris Haruna was arrested, and on interrogation, he confessed to the crime, and the Dane gun used in committing the offence was recovered from him. State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) is investigating, while suspects will be arraigned accordingly.
ARREST OF FRAUDSTER:* – on 20/02/2024 at about 1200hrs, intelligence at the Command’s disposal revealed that, two unknown person’s suspected to be fraudsters, were using fictitious loan company named Sky Blue Limited, defrauding people millions of Naira, in Hadejia.
On receipt of the report, Detectives from Hadejia ‘A’ Division swiftly swung into action, where one Abdulsaid Muideen ‘m’ age 40yrs of Ibadan, Oyo State was arrested with fake documents. While his boss, one Musa Ibrahim a.k.a Taufeeq ‘m’ of the same address escaped to unknown destination.
The suspects was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Dutse for discreet investigation, suspect could not give satisfactory account of himself, nor the company they claimed to be working with but claimed that he was recruited by the said Taufeeq. Meanwhile, effort is intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect for prosecution.
KIDNAPPING/RESCUE OF VICTIM: On 20/02/24 at about 0230hrs, a distress call was received by the Divisional Police officer Garki Division that, unknown armed men on two motorcycles, entered the premises of one Alhaji Ibrahim Leko ‘m’ 70yrs of Kita village Garki LGA, and forcefully took him away.
On receipt of the report, the Patrol team alongside vigilantes, were mobilized and gave the hoodlums a hot chase, as a result of which they abandoned the victim, escaped through Kwarin Dogaji village via Ringim LGA.
The victim was rescued unhurt and has since reunited with his family, while efforts were being intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects.
ARREST OF FRAUDSTERS (YAHOO) BOYS:  – On 21/2/2024 at about 1000hrs, operatives attached to Dutse Division, acting on credible and actionable Intelligence stormed at a house in Yalwawa Quarters, Dutse metropolis, where they successfully arrested the following suspects:- one Henry Chilaka ‘m’ 28yrs of Mbeise LGA Imo State, Solomon Ubah ‘m’ 26yrs, Bright Enyeazu ‘m’ 19yrs, Chigozie Duru ‘m’ 19yrs and Solomon Uchezie ‘m’ 17yrs all of Abia state and all residing at Yalwawa quarters of Dutse metropolis.
The suspects were transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Dutse for discreet investigation. On interrogation, the suspects confessed to belong to a Yahoo syndicate setting up a base in the state capital, Dutse.
The suspects confessed that, it was one Charles Chiemala ‘m’ now at large that rented the house, brought them to the state, and introduced them to the business. When search was conducted in the house, five (5) Laptop Computers, five (5) Handsets, a generator, two (2) inverter batteries, six (6) big solar panel battery terminals, two (2) mattresses, and household items were recovered.
The suspects were charged to court for prosecution, and have been remanded to police custody while investigation continues. Meanwhile, the sum of two hundred and thirty thousand (N230,000.00k) recovered from the suspect has been taken into custody and treated as exhibit.
ARREST OF FRAUDSTERS: – On 21/02/2024 at about 1340hrs one Ahmed Muhammed ‘m’ 23yrs of Hotoro quarters, Tarauni LGA Kano state, reported at B/Kudu Division that, in December 2023, unknown person called him with GSM No. 09123879973 and introduced himself as Auta ‘m’ of B/Kudu LGA, that they are herders and while rearing, they came across a box hidden in the bush, loaded with United State Dollars, and looking for someone to exchange the Dollars with Nigerian currency.
The victim innocently came to the site for the exchange, while the suspect lured him to Jahun-Kwari, which is the meeting point, where he met two people on ground, and defrauded him the sum of three hundred thousand naira (N300,000.00k).
Similarly, on 19/12/2023 the same suspect call him with GSM No. 09130375281 and demanded the sum of one million two hundred thousand naira (N1.2m), where they gave him two bundles of counterfeited U.S Dollars.
Furthermore, on 17/02/2024, the same suspect called his friend one Mohammed ‘m’ and told him the same thing, where he reported to police at B/Kudu on the development.
Police team from B/Kudu Division in company of the complainant rushed to the scene. On arrival the following suspects were met and eventually arrested Abdullahi ‘m’ age 30yrs, Bashari Umaru ‘m’ 18yrs both of Jahun-Kwari village and Ibrahim Haruna ‘m’ age 65yrs of Kakare village.
The following exhibits were recovered from them; one hundred and nine (109) pieces of counterfeited USD Notes, one boxer motorcycle, one Nokia Keypad handset and a cutlass.
On interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime, and that they were sent by leaders of their gang domicile in Juwan Tudu village B/Kudu LGA.
ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF FIRE ARM:  On 24/02/2024 at about 1100hrs, a distress call received that, a twelve years old Yahuza Nazifi sustained serious Injury on his hand with a locally made pistol brought by his father one Mohammad Nazifi ‘m’ 37yrs of Titin Allah Ya-isa quarters, B/Kudu LGA.
The suspect was arrested, exhibit was also recovered, searched was conducted in the house and premises of the suspect and one cartridge was recovered from his house, the suspect claimed to have bought the said pistol in Rivers state from unknown person. Case has been transferred to SCID Dutse, while investigation into the case has commenced. Suspect will be arraigned after completion of investigation.
Concluding, the commissioner urged the good people of Jigawa State to remain calm, upholding law and order and to report in time any suspicious movement of persons/objects to the nearest security outlet.
“I also plead with them to continue providing useful information to aid the Command in the fight against crime and criminalities,” he added.
