United States – A father and son who were to be on the ill-fated Titan submersible have disclosed that they changed their minds after assessing the magnitude of the risks involved.

The sub grabbed global attention after it vanished into the depths of the Atlantic Ocean with five on board who were going on an adventure to the wreckage of the Titanic ship, which sits 13,000 feet below the surface.

Speaking to CNN, Jay and Sean, a father and son, revealed they were initially set to be on the trip, but they ended up giving up their seats to the father and son duo from the United Kingdom who died in the submersible.

Sean, a 20-year-old, disclosed that after watching a video of a sub, he was certain that it could implode or get stuck in the wreckage of the Titanic.

“As we were considering whether we want to go to the submarine ourselves, we had several concerns about the structural integrity of the submarine. I saw a video of the CEO explaining how it works, and all I saw were red flags,” he said.

“Ultimately, I ended up warning my dad about it, and he ended up agreeing with me as the questions were asked were brushed off,” the 20-year-old said.

Jay, the father, said the OceanGate CEO, who is among those who perished, even flew to Las Vegas to see him to try and convince him not to give up, but after much considering, they found the risks too dire.
