See Why Karim Mandonga was Temporarily Banned from Boxing

Karim Mandonga, a Tanzanian boxer known for talking big, has been dealt a blow.

Why Karim Mandonga was temporarily banned

Mandonga burst into the limelight in Kenya for naming his fists and defeated Daniel Wanyonyi at a much-hyped bout in Nairobi.

However, Wanyonyi floored Mandonga in the second face-off held in July.

Following the defeat, the Tanzanian welcomed Uganda’s Moses Golola to his home country for a match in Mwanza.

The story repeated as Golola knocked out Mandonga on Saturday, July 29.

The knockout prompted the Tanzania Professional Boxing Regulatory Commission (TPBRC) to take action over concerns about Mandonga’s safety.

ZBC Zanzibar reports that the body banned Mandonga from participating in any bouts until undergoing a medical check-up.

TPBRC said Mandonga would only be allowed back in the ring once they ascertained he was medically fit.

Many social media users welcomed the move, saying that the frequency of his fights was alarming.

Mohamed Mohamed Asaa:

“Our brother needs to rest a little. His hunger made him lack empathy for himself. I support TPBRC’s move.”

Sule Man:

“They have done a good thing because this man made boxing look like football- a match every other month.”

Emmanuel Ngasa:

“Why did they stop him? They should let him pass away in the ring.”

Gabriel Robert:

“Let them quickly run the check-up and allow him to continue his career.”

Dedevede Dedevede:

“Leave Mandonga alone.”

Hassani Gaha:

“His fights are as frequent as football matches.”
