Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has formally registered as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in his hometown of Agulu, located in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Also completing his membership registration is Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central Senatorial District in the Senate. Umeh received his ADC membership card in Aguluzigbo, another community within the same local government area.

The registration ceremony attracted several party leaders and stakeholders who gathered to witness the development. Among those present were former senator Ben Obi and the ADC National Organising Secretary Chinedu Idigo.

Other notable attendees included members of the House of Representatives such as Afam Ogene, who represents Ogbaru Federal Constituency; Peter Anekwe of Anambra East/West Federal Constituency; and Lilian Orogbu, representing Awka South/North Federal Constituency.

The event also featured the presence of the party’s candidate in the November 2025 Anambra governorship election, John Nwosu, alongside his running mate, Ndubuisi Nwobu, and a large number of party supporters.

Ahead of the exercise, party leaders had already distributed about 48,900 membership cards across the state’s 21 local government areas. The cards were handed to local party officials for further distribution across the 326 political wards as part of efforts to expand the party’s grassroots presence.

Speaking during the event, party stakeholders urged members to intensify efforts to attract more supporters into the ADC, stressing that strengthening the party’s structure at the grassroots level would be crucial ahead of future elections.

Senator Umeh noted that Anambra State has close to 2.8 million registered voters and called on them to rally behind Obi if he decides to pursue the presidency again in 2027.

Meanwhile, the party’s National Organising Secretary, Idigo, assured members that more membership cards would be supplied from the national secretariat to accommodate the growing number of people seeking to join the party across the state.
