President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), resulting in the exit of two ministers from his cabinet.
In a memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the President directed the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, to step down from their positions, while naming their replacements.
According to the directive, Edun has been asked to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who will now assume the role of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the same ministry.
In the Housing and Urban Development Ministry, Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD) has been nominated as minister-designate to replace Dangiwa. Pending his confirmation, Dangiwa has been instructed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry.
The memo further stated that all handover processes must be completed on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Explaining the rationale behind the changes, Akume noted that the reshuffle was aimed at improving teamwork within the cabinet and boosting the government’s performance, particularly in delivering economic benefits to Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He also emphasized that the President acted within his constitutional authority, citing Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empower him to appoint and reassign ministers.
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their contributions to national development and wished them success in their future pursuits.
The President also assured remaining cabinet members that efforts to strengthen governance and improve service delivery would continue.
